The Festival

Why it Matters

Wake the Giant started in 2019 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It was created with a simple goal: to help communities recognize racism, celebrate Indigenous culture, and support Indigenous youth transitioning into city life in Thunder Bay.

Today, it’s grown into something much bigger. Led by a team of dedicated volunteers, Wake the Giant not only throws an epic music festival, it delivers:

Cultural Awareness Training

Check out our online course!

Student Orientation Programming

DFC Experience and Amazing Race.

Welcomes hundreds of Indigenous Youth to TBay!

More than A Music Festival

Presented by Northern Nishnawbe Education Council (NNEC), this isn’t your typical music festival. One minute you’re singing along to your favourite artist, the next, you’re in a Round Dance with people you just met. The Thunder Bay Waterfront comes alive with tunes, traditional drums, the smell of bannock tacos, and the ringing of jingle dresses. Festival goers dance, learn and might even leave with a new perspective (and definitely a new festival hoodie!) It’s a whole experience.
